The target date is still late May although Sager hasn't specified an exact date. As soon as we hear anything we will let everyone know. We are just as anxious to see how this monster performs!

I just received this email from XoticPC:

"I wanted to give you an update that I just found out about. The ETA on the 9280 will be closer to the end of May. There is an unreleased change that they are making that will be worth waiting a few extra days for. I will fill you in as soon as everything is released officially and I can say more."

I wonder what the "unreleased change" will be that will make it worth the extra few days of waiting?

Here is a bit of a update from XoticPC:

The new Sager NP9280 is ready to ship early next week with the Intel Core i7 920.

Many customers have ordered with the Intel Core i7 940 & Core i7 965 XE. Sager is planning to support future Intel® Core™ i7 processors in LGA-1366 package that will be released soon. The new SKU’s will be a better value to customers that have ordered with Core i7 940 & Core i7 965 XE.

Sager plans to hold customer orders of the Core i7 940 & Core i7 965 XE and ship these orders with future Intel® Core™ i7 processors in LGA-1366 package at no extra cost to the customers.

My Response:

All Core i7 Nehalem Bloomfield cores are LGA-1366. So the above update doesn't make any sense to me. Can anyone shed some light on their update?

It would have made more sense to me if it had said, "... future Intel® Core™ i7 32nm Westmere based processors code-named Gulftown."

(But, this still wouldn't explain the delay)

The reason I say this is that Intel is already dumping Bloomfield 45nm in favor of Westmere 32nm. And,

This new 32nm processor will have six cores, a 12MB L3 Cache, and share the same X58 chipset and 1366-pin socket.

It's only downfall: Being an enthusiast-class, high-performance part, Gulftown processors won't have an integrated graphics core, instead requiring a dedicated graphics card to power their display output.

That's because it is only a stepping stone to:

Lynfield; I'll have to add more later as the wife wants to go to breakfast and I have to jump in the shower. ;\

anyway, who knows, what will happen will happen

I thought the desktop version of the i 7 965 had the LGA-1366...and the original plan had lga 765 for the 9280, or something like that "i think"..

Hope this is for the better...We have been waiting long enough...

Ya that puzzles me too then...Why would they say there has been a change and our shipments will be delayed for a good cause if it already had the LGA 1366 socket......Must be a logical reason...

I ordered mine from PCtorque. I haven't heard anything from them regarding this change so, I'm in the dark. If you guys didn't post these updates, then i wouldn't have known anything about the change.

If Jason, Ben, or someone from PCTorque reads this thread,,,Shed some light on the subject for everyone!!!

Thanks

I can't say with 100% certainty but, it is likely that Sager is replacing the 940 with the new 950 and the 965 with the new 975. See there specs below:

The Core i7-950 is a performance edition bloomfield chip which is clocked at 3.06 GigaHertz with 8 MegaBytes of cache. The Core i7-975 is an extreme edition bloomfield chip clocked fastest at 3.33 GigaHertz and the same 8 MegaBytes of cache. These two chips will replace the i7-940 and i7-965 respectively when released. The specifications and price are listed below.

Core i7 975 Extreme Edition Bloomfield:
Speed: 3.33 GHz
Cores: 4
Cache Size: 8 MB
Memory controller: DDR3 800/1066/1333 MHz
Bus Interface: 1x 6.4 GT/s QuickPath
Socket: LGA1366
Power TDP: 130 W
Price: $999

Core i7 950 Performance Edition Bloomfield:
Speed: 3.06 GHz
Cores: 4
Cache Size: 8 MB
Memory controller: DDR3 800/1066/1333 MHz
Bus Interface: 1x 4.8 GT/s QuickPath
