HELP! Hard drive partition problems.

Okay, I have a dell xps m140, my hard drive broke so I replaced it. I didn't have a windows cd so I installed Linux, i didn't like it so i deleted it, i then burned a copy of a modded windows xp and it wasn't working out good for me because all the applications were removed. Then I got my hands on a real copy of windows home. When i turn my computer on it says i have two partitions but one of them doesn't work and both of their names are the same. Now I tried to delete the OS system i was currently on, and messed something up. Now when I turn my computer on, i boot the xp cd and it says everything is installing then the blue screen comes on and displays an error message...it just doesn't seem to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get a hand on a GParted Live CD. Repartition and reformat your drive, then try again with the re-installation.
