The problem is xp detects harddrive, when i delete all partition and create a new partition using xp pro cd, it says

"Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged."

Make sure the drive is switched on and porperly connected. etc.

Now if i delete the and divide into 2 partitions it goes ahead and formats in ntfs (quick) but after copying files and first restart... i get a black screen then it has the black background with white sticks loading bar wich takes for ever, before i will get blue screan of dead. now it just hangs in the loading bars with black background(not the xp logo one.) its before it..

A friend told me i need to add the sata drivers to the nlite xp created cd(i know how now) but i cant find the drivers.. for the sata controler or harddrive.. any help on how to fix this??

Info:
Toshiba Satellite a215-s5818

1 Sata harddrive
OS trying to install: Wndows Xp Pro
Same thing if i try installing windows vista(original copys)

Pleas help with download links or how to resove this issue? or what to do to install properly in xp or vista..

Did you try looking into BIOS and see if you can disable AHCI support before installation?

Bios is very basic, and has no options other than boot, and password, and i can only see drives but i cant modify anything. Is there a way to download a bootable disk and update them trough there?

You should be able to get into BIOS Setup, after giving the correct password.

Sorry i ment to say, password settings like i can only create/change password settings for laptop, see installed drives, and time.. nothing to change.. and there is no password..

I been playing with this for almost 3 days now and no luck.

When i install vista i hangs at "expading files" sometimes it will stay at 0% all day or sometimes it will go up to 5-80% then show an error that it cant copy files..

With xp its same thing when i try to format the harddrive i delete all partitions, and create a new partition format it (ntfs)the only option i have there no fat or anything.. when i format it using xp pro original cd it says that the disk may be damaged or of its scsi something like that to install properly... how ever if i create 2 partitions half and half 100 gig and 100 gig.. it formats correctly with out errors, but on the second step after copying files and restarting it stays black background and white loading sticks/bars and thats all it does.. take sfor ever and i just restart it..

I tend to think that the disk is failing as well. Can you take it out and format it from outside, via an external housing?
