XPS M1210 DVD/CD-RW Drive Replacement

Please forgive me if this has been posted before, I tried searching and did not find an answer.

I currently have a XPS M1210, and am looking to replace the DVD-RW drive installed. I'm trying to shy away from getting a replacement (same model) unit, and would rather use another brand drive.

My question is, which drive would work for the laptop? I know it has a SATA connector, but it appears to have an adapter, or something on the back of the drive.

My old Compaq laptop allowed any slim-IDE drive to be installed, so I was wondering if Dell was the same.

Yes the Dell drives tend to be the same way in that there are several types of drives that are compatible.

it is the interface you need to have correct, IDE Sata, or Pata. From what i see your laptop has a IDE interface for the drive
it is definitely not a Sata interface on the enclosure.

You can usually find exact replacements, but some are generic ones, in which case you use the bezel from the old drive.
