I just upgraded my Gateway MX3230 with 1 GB of RAM, but the laptop only recognizes 448 MB (which means it only recognizes 512 MB because 64 MB is used for the video card). Gateway's website claims that the laptop support 1 GB. How can I get it to recognize / detect the full 1 GB, minus the amount the video uses of course?
The old memory was a Hynix 256 MB 200-Pin SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200)
The new memory module is a Kingston 1GB 200-Pin SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) model KVR533D2S4/1G
Both are 200-Pin SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) memory modules. I don't understand why the laptop doesn't recognize the memory. I just looked at Kingston and Crucial and both of them claim that the laptop can run up to 1 GB of memory too.
