Hey, I got an LG p300 -

and right now I am going to buy office 2007 through microsoft's "ultimate steal" promotion, but they are also offering vista ultimate for 70 bucks, and I was wondering if it would be worth my money to cough up so I could get the 64 bit version of vista. Right now I just have 32 bit home premium vista.

If you get the 64-bit version, you'll be able to make use of all your memory, so it would be worth it on that line. How much it would actually speed up your system is debatable, since 64-bit drivers and applications are still not very common.

Well, see that is where the issue lies. 70 bucks is nothing for vista ultimate, but is it worth 70 bucks to be able to use an extra gig of ram? Also, would it be wasted money with windows 7 coming out? I'm really asking you guys to do the cost-benefit analysis for me lol.

I'm leaning towards buying it, but I dunno.

Sorry, but you're the only one who can figure out if it's worth it to you.

If you want to see how Windows 7 will run on your computer, you can download the release candidate from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/ and install it on your computer to find out.

I'd stick with Vista 32 for the moment. Not worth upgrading to Vista 64 when we all know that we'll all eventually move to Windows 7 anyway. 3Gb on Vista 32 is more than enough for most applications and games anyway. Just my 02 cents.

This does seem like a bad time to upgrade unless you need? I mean the price might drop when W7 comes out? The US army is switching to Vista for all you Vista haters and W7 fan boys! Maybe Vista will stick around?

Have you looked into the availability of 64 drivers for your model? I mean I am sure you can find but is it easy? Or a headache.

Don't do impulse buying. $70 for something of no benefit is still $70 more than it is worth. But yea the price sounds good.
