Fujitsu LifreBook 4220 won't Power-on

Brand-new Fujitsu LifreBook 4220. top specifications. Dead!

It simply will not turn on. There is no response even on the LCD panel.

Multimeter shows powersupply is functioning.

I have tried the standard trick of removing battery and power supply, bleeding it for a minute by holding the power button down. Doesn't work.

Anyone have any idea what is going on? this is bizarre - only last week my housemate had exactly the same problem with a Brand-newToshiba laptop. This seriously rattles my confidence in buying any new laptop - my old ThinkPad is still working perfectly!!

I wonder if there is some faulty hibernation-mode chip that different manufacturers are using...?

Actually I am writing this on behalf of a mate, seeing as he cannot now get onto the Internet.

he was getting fed up with the screensaver kicking in, so he altered the power settings. He disabled the screensaver and increased the time before the computer shuts itself down on battery mode.

Then in the middle of just playing music it died.

It looks like maybe the battery ran out BEFORE hibernation mode kicked in, and the computer somehow did itself damage in closing down.

Could this be a fault with Windows architecture? is it likely to be permanent damage? would it make any sense to remove the CMOS battery?

I would try with another battery first.

some times cleaning the battery with an eraser works

Stand-by button is Pressed !

You can try the following :
Open Status Bar, and try to power it on while status bar is out.
open memory door and take one ram out (switch it to the other slot if it has one ram only)
leave machine without battery & power for 24 hrs (seems non-professional but sometimes it works).

During above experiments dont use battery pack every time you turn it on use direct AC Adapter.
