XPS Gen 2 died

Hi all. I tried to search the forums but haven't really found any answers to my issues. This morning I opened up my laptop to use it for a while, and it was powered off. I thought this was odd, since I didn't shut it down last night, just closed the lid. I hit the power button, and the laptop looks like it trys to start up, and the harddrive spins up, but it won't boot. I see the lights come on for about 5 sec. then it shuts down. I don't hear any of the fans spinning up at all. What could it be? I tried booting off the battery, and the power supply(which is almost brand new) nothing works. It's not even posting. I don't see anything on the screen at all. Is my video card dead? I used it for about 3 hours last night and it was fine, I didn't have any artifacting, and the computer was running fine.

I would start by looking at the memory

If you have two dimms try booting with one of them, and then swap them.

If you only have one dimm, try borrowing another to test with.

When I got home I pulled each stick of memory and tried to start the laptop, with the second stick it booted! I put the other stick in the second slot(after powering down the laptop) and ran memtest to see if there was anything wrong with it. It didn't show any errors, but I want to upgrade to 2gb anyways so I'm going to get a couple of new sticks. I still think its odd that it all of the sudden stopped working? O, well. Thanks for your help!

well usually these kind of problems are memory, mainboard or CPU.

I seen memory fail like this a few times.

Cheers
