M9750 HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PROBLEM!!!

ok i need a real good tech to help me out. i am having some serious problems with this laptop, i have

2 X 512 9750 GTX
2G ram
1 7500 rpm 100g sata HDD
2.33 duel core

about 4 months ago i installed windows XP home after i had some issues, come to find out while playing WoW with a framerate of 15 i looked at my SLi config and saw it was not activated. so i activated it and got the Nvid4_Disp endless loop BSOD, just from enabling SLI, and this loop happens before im able to log in. so i updated my driver, and the new nvidia drver from alienware causes my scren to go black COMPLETLEY and forces me to do a system restore. so i formatted and put windows XP Pro, and i have the same exact problem. so i put Windows vista 32 bit, and all of the video drivers cause my screen to go black. even after restarts, but the endles sloop is gone because my computer does not crash. i can tell by the hard drive activity.

i have opened the laptop and verified my ram is in place and the SLi cable is secure and the Video cards are secure.

my system reconizes both video cards in device manager

i instal the drivers starting with chipset and then video card drivers.

so in a nutshell when i enable SLi my system is stuck in an endless loop Nvid4_disp. i can play with 1 video card enabled i guess. does this mean one of my cards died?

if so what one? and also what are some other causes. i even set optimal defaults in my BIOS.... HELP!!!!!!!

*EDIT*

also i just tried to instal one of the video card drivers from alienware, when it finished my screen did the testing part where it turns off and on, and then it stayed black. i pluged in an external monitor and hit FN + F3 and the video displayed on my external monitor, and i restarted like the driver asked me to. when i got back to the loading screen my color was in 4bit and i went to look at my adapter and i had an error stating that my driver was written for a previous version of windows and is not compatible with this version. WTF! so the XP driver was written for XP and is no longer compatible with XP. this is also one of the issues i had with XP home. and i just re installed the driver with the 4 bit graphics going and after restart my screen is BLACK... im about to hulk smash somthing real fast....

well all i can say is it sounds like a driver issue.
oh...and another thing i can say is i am in the middle of a huge exchange with alienware over a bad video board in my 9750 that i have only had a year and a half.
oh...and another thing i can say is alienwaresux

Might be an obvious thing but I gotta ask. Did you uninstall your graphics drivers, then use Driversweeper to remove all remaining traces of the old drivers before you installed new drivers?

well do i still need to use driversweep even after instaling a new version of windows? i had thought creating a new partition and formatting would take care of it... or am i wrong?

do you guys think it would be a good idea if i pulle dout my duel 7950gtx's and put in 2 8700's? is that an upgrade or a downgrade? for windows XP
post #7 of 26
the 7950's are better cards in XP than the 8700 cards...i would use the drivers off of alienwares website and you must install the driver on both cards or it wont work and make sure that they are for XP...
Also if you are reinstalling XP you need to follow the driver install order all the way down on alienware website...
if this doesnt help then i would contact alienware and see what they have to say...

hold on i have to instal the driver on both cards?? what?? you just might have somthing here... please elaborate what you mean instaling the driver on both cards. iw as under the impression installing the driver worked for both cards. so i have to somehow indevidually install the driver on each card seperatly?

*EDIT* oh yeah and i love those little dancing aliens!! haha

if my memory serves me right you have to install the same driver on both cards under the device manager

ok ill try that today, i will use driver sweep. also when i first look in device manager i only see 1, 3D controller and after installing the AW driver it shows both 7950 gtx's

also how do i get this problem to stop here, when i instal graphics drivers. every single time i do my screen goes black and i have to force it to shut down. (the driver is installed sucessfully) but after it tests the screen while its installing. it never brings it back LOL that is going to make this pretty diffecult. or maybe im NOOB,

*IF YOU ARE RIGHT IM GOING TO BE SO HAPPY*

under device manager look for display adapters it should show two cards... then right click on them to install the new driver and do it for both...
When you installed the drivers, it should have installed the drivers for both cards at the same time. I've never had to install drivers separately on M9750 SLI or on my M17 Xfire.

I've never heard of having to install the drivers individually.

I think you may have to consider that your secondary card may be faulty. Even a bad secondary card can still show up in device manager.
ive had mine not install both drivers before so its a possibility...but if that doesnt work then i would more than likely say its a bad card...

hmm i am going to try this and i will install a new driver on each card seperatly. i didnt even think of that. i have never even heard of having to do that. is there a diagnosics software that can test my SLI and and cards functions??

Love them dancin aliens man...... DAM!!!!!
you can see if the driver is on both cards by going under the properties of the cards to see if the driver is the same then you will know if it actually installed them on both...this will be the easiest way to check...I added my second card later so this is probably why mine didnt install it on both cards for me...

If you are under warranty i would call alienware if you cant get them to work and get them to send you a new card if that is the problem...

Hopefully his card isn't fried. The primary card in my M9750 is fried.
