In your first post you said that you can't even enable SLI so there is no point in running 3dMark06.

You also said your device manager recognizes both cards, which it will even if your secondary card is bad.

I am not aware of a way to check your card unless you can find someone else with a M9750 (or equivelant chassis) and 7950 GTX SLI. Then you could put your secondary card in that laptop and see if it works or not.

Another slight possibility is that there could be a problem with your SLI cable.

You're in a bad situation unless you find somone who's rig you can use for testing.

If not you may have to start thinking about buying another, now very expensive, 7950 GTX. If you are considering this, I suggest you first purchase a new SLI cable for $15 to $20 first since it's not as much as a new card.

From my perspective you're more fortunate than I. On my M9750, it was the Primary card that fried.

One more thing. The secondary card is the "Parent" as denoted by the "P" sticker on it. The Primary GPU is the "Daughter " with the "D" sticker. I know this seems backwards but I assure you this is correct.

I hope it isn't a fried GPU but it sure looks that way.
Good luck.

EDIT: Majictoast, sorry, I don't know if you mentioned it or not, but if you're the original owner of that laptop you can get the SLI cable right from Alienware. You won't however be able to get a 7950 GTX as they don't have any. They will refer you to Ztronics who don't have any right now. The only GPU you'll be able to get form A.W. for your rig would be the 8xxx series and you would have to get two of them for the SLI. FYI, a few people have installed ATI 3870's in Xfire in the M9750 successfully.

2 X 512 9750 GTX
2G ram
1 7500 rpm 100g sata HDD
2.33 duel core

about 4 months ago i installed windows XP home after i had some issues, come to find out while playing WoW with a framerate of 15 i looked at my SLi config and saw it was not activated. so i activated it and got the Nvid4_Disp endless loop BSOD, just from enabling SLI, and this loop happens before im able to log in. so i updated my driver, and the new nvidia drver from alienware causes my scren to go black COMPLETLEY and forces me to do a system restore. so i formatted and put windows XP Pro, and i have the same exact problem. so i put Windows vista 32 bit, and all of the video drivers cause my screen to go black. even after restarts, but the endles sloop is gone because my computer does not crash. i can tell by the hard drive activity.

i have opened the laptop and verified my ram is in place and the SLi cable is secure and the Video cards are secure.

my system reconizes both video cards in device manager

i instal the drivers starting with chipset and then video card drivers.

so in a nutshell when i enable SLi my system is stuck in an endless loop Nvid4_disp. i can play with 1 video card enabled i guess. does this mean one of my cards died?

if so what one? and also what are some other causes. i even set optimal defaults in my BIOS.... HELP!!!!!!!

*EDIT*

also i just tried to instal one of the video card drivers from alienware, when it finished my screen did the testing part where it turns off and on, and then it stayed black. i pluged in an external monitor and hit FN + F3 and the video displayed on my external monitor, and i restarted like the driver asked me to. when i got back to the loading screen my color was in 4bit and i went to look at my adapter and i had an error stating that my driver was written for a previous version of windows and is not compatible with this version. WTF! so the XP driver was written for XP and is no longer compatible with XP. this is also one of the issues i had with XP home. and i just re installed the driver with the 4 bit graphics going and after restart my screen is BLACK... im about to hulk smash somthing real fast....

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your system. After installing windows and drivers it is hardware related issue. Does it happen with other games? Any benchmark test done and if so, any errors, crash during the test? Feel free to send me a PM with your account details so I can assist you on this matter.

Thank you.

Hey Majictoast,

If you end up being able to fully determine that it is the graphics card, you might want to give this a try:

your insane... but that just might be crazy enough to work, only gripe i have is i just put arctic silver 5 on my GPU's and CPU like 3 days ago. would a good test be to swap out cards and turn my laptop on with each card in the primary slot? the failing card should not work amirite? but man... i JUST!!!! TOOK... IT.... APART!! lol thanks for the tops with the oven. ill make it a last resort, or just to make sure im safe ill put the whole laptop in the oven and set it for 500 Just to make sure

No, that test most likely won't work. I put my secondary card in the primary slot and that too would not allow my rig to work.

Although the cards are physically the same, they are is flashed with a different bios and therefore not interchangeable.

Exhaust everything you can do to determine that it is in fact a faulty secondary card.

I may believe that's the case but it's not my card or my money. You need to be satisfied that's what the problem is before doing the procedure.

And I know you're joking about that last part! lol
