MT3422 fan replacement

Thread Starter
I bought a new MT3422 latop about a year and 9 months ago. I leave it running 24x7 and in less than a year the fan was worn out. Gateway was good about fixng it but now it's out of warranty so I need to do it myself this time.

Anybody got a link to instructions on fan replacement? I just need to figure out how to get the thing apart and remove the old fan.

Also, where's the best place to buy the fan?

Giving the fact that it is not so easy to locate a service guide for this model, you might want to browse the section for other models removal, and using them as references.

For parts, here is one of many sale sites on the net

Take pics and share them with the next ones, would ya?

Its pretty straight forward to take apart. take all the screws out underneath, take out the hard drive and there are 2 more screws to take out where it was. Then pop out the piece above the keyboard carefully so you can remove the keybvoard to get the screws under it. Next remove the screen to get the last 2 screws in the back corners. Get the motherboard screws next and take it out of the case. Underneath is the fan and processors.

the fan on this one is integrated with the thermal module. you would have to purchase the entire module.

Our issue is getting the cover off. All available screws have been removed and it still won't come apart at the hinges. We can see inside there are silver pins holding it down. Can't get the keyboard out can't get the top of the pc off. What's the secret????

                 Thanks

There can be some tabs just above the F keys or down by the lower part - you can pry them up. Take a closer look there and see
