ASUS G51 Headed for Computex

Thread Starter
ASUS wowwed us with it's W90 not long ago, and it seems that they're not wasting any time. They've got a new, slightly more portable, system the in the works and ready for Computex in July, the G51.

Vital Specs include

Size: 15.6- and 16-inch
CPU: Choice between a Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processor.
RAM: Up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM
GPU: 1GB GeForce GTX 260M
HDD: Dual 500 GB
Camera: 2 MPxl
Optical Drive: Optional Blu-ray

No word on pricing yet, but more should come up at Computex when the system will be introduced.

Yep, it is gonna be a hot one. Following the design of the G50VT series, this one is branded "Futuristic Robot Design", with a led lid keyboard.

The Dual core is said to support up to the T9900 (3.06ghz) and the Quad-Core comes with either Q9000 or Q9100.

The CPU is being boosted with Asus proprietaire „CPU Level-up“ Technology that can give a performance jump of (up to) 20% "overclocked"

Too bad (really???) that Asus would not push for the GTX 280M :-( for this model.

Damn, conundrum I'm in now... I can get a G50VT-X6 with a $100 dollar rebate for $ 1149.99. However, I would rather wait until the G51's come out to buy a new laptop. My suspicion is the G51's are going to be out of my price range by a couple hundred dollars.

It is slated to cost at around 1.400 Euro for the T9400/2x320gb/4gig ram DDR2 configuration.

I just learned that the keyboard layout is of the Chiclet type (like the macbook)

Are you at Computex, Q? I thought it didn't open for a few days still. If you're going to be around while it's running, would you be interested in doing an NBF write-up about it?

Personally no, but we have co-workers that will be there. I am eager to get a hand on this machine as well, as soon as I get back to HH next month. Just finished the review on the G50VT-X1 (pending)
