Need pin layout for LCD connector

Thread Starter
I got myself a WUXGA screen and have the 3 month 'old' WSXGA+ one left.

My plan is to use it as an external screen! like super-duper wide

Anyway, I need to know the pin layout so that I can make the right connector for it.
Anybody have a clue?

It's the LVDS 2 interface which is quite different from other display interfaces. Don't know if this helps, but here is the manual of a motherboard that has the LVDS1/2 interface. On page 18 there is a diagram of the connector.

Ehm... the connector you pointed me to in the .pdf file seems to be of a completely different sort.

I'm talking about the pin layout for this connector:

Ye olde standard connector to the Radeon 9600 PT in my i8600.

This has 44 pins on just 1 side as opposed to the 26 on both sides in the LDVS 2 interface.

Or did you mean something else?

Eep...must be a different interface...sorry.

It's the standard connector for a 15.4" Dell i8600 screen... anybody?

So far no luck in my quest. can anybody tell me the pin layout? Maybe the data sheets for any of the i8600 LCD screens? Hitachi or Sharp would be best... I have those.

Did you try a Google search?

Since it's an ATI card, is it not a DVI interface with the pin arrangement in a non-standard form?

I Googled, Yahood and many more. I get 1 hit on any of the screen part numbers and that is... this forum!

The connector on the ATi side *has* to be some sort of DVI interface, why make it harder for yourself than you absolutely have to, right?

But how to find the pin layout? I can't just go ahead and try can I? Only have 1 screen left so none to waste.

But if anyone has any ideas on who might know more about the video card data sheet, that would help just the same of course.

Oh my god, it's like praying for a million bucks and a dark voice from above saying 'Here you are, son'... well.. maybe it's a little like that anyway

I'll let you all know if I make any progress....

p.s.

It seems like LVDS is not compatible to DVI. I'll investigate that next...
well your doing better than me, i don't even know what LVDS and DVI mean!

Actually i'm hoping to run my tv/gamecube through it but i imagine it's a similar project...

Hehe, well the result I got so far from my little Google expedition is that aN LVDS to DVI adapter costs only 699 bucks!

http://store.kayye.com/kayye/mudtolvad.html

Too hefty for me, but the thing I like... IT IS POSSIBLE!

Can you explain a little more about LVDS and DVI?

My brother is pretty good with electronics so i can ask him for advice but need some info first!

ehm.. I don't know anything more I'm afraid. They're both interfaces, i.e. ways one component talks to another. I know nothing about either of them.

So unless someone is quite brilliant at electronics or I can find one of those LVDS - DVI converters for cheap... this project seems to be a little dead
post #16 of 27
but why do you need to convert them in the first place?
Damn the would be really cool. WEll im getting WUXGA and have a WXGA there doing notting so this would be cool i can hang it up on my wall and use it as an external screen. but it wouldnt be cool for $699. im going to ask people in this other forum let me get a link and c what people there tell me.

It get's power through the connector, but how hard can it be to just solder a few wires to the right place...

I would like it just the same if it showed a tv picture.

Just anything but gathering dust like it is now!
