Low power harddisk for a V1S

Thread Starter
I have an Asus V1s with a Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm hard drive.

A month ago I replaced this harddrive with a OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD-drive. Above the improvement in performance my laptop last a lot longer with the battery. I mean, really a lot longer. However, the OCZ drive is to expensive for me so I coulnd't let it in my laptop.

What options are available to make my laptop last a lot longer with its battery. Does anyone of you know a harddrive (which is not too expensive) which has a very low power consumption?

Short of dropping the rpm of the current HDD, I doubt that you'd find anything that comes close to the battery saving performance of the SSD.

cheers ...

even changing the RPM isn't going to do much. Due to power-saving technology, there isn't that much of a difference between the power consumption of a 7200RPM and a 5400RPM hard drive anymore.

So a 5400prm drive doesn't matter.

Is there no better hard drive (except a ssd) for the battery?

Mmm, then I'll have to spare some money...

Bad thing is that Vista can't run on a 30GB SSD. If you have Vista Business + Office + Creative Suite CS3 running you already need 40GB.

Or are there ways to reduce this size so I can run al my programs on a 30GB SSD. 30GB SSD is affortable now.

30gb is pushing it with what you want to do. Vista SP2 does need some room to maneuver correctly, and you'd never know what other apps would require; plus the defragmentation issue.

Wait a bit longer, prices are dropping with every day goes by.
