I've heard some rumors that after June 19th 2009, when you buy a copy of Vista it comes with a free Windows 7 license key. Is this actually true or are people just making this up? And if it is true, can you get a free windows 7 license key when you buy a laptop with pre-loaded vista after june 19th?

not comes with a key, its the same as the Technical Guarauntee program that Vista had the fall selling season before it was released. Microsoft has't officially announced anythig yet, though, and it requires participation from the computer manufacturers

programs designed so people can still buy computers before 7 is actually out and get a copy of 7, instead of not spedning their money (hurting computer sales) and waiting for it to finally release

Apologies if my question isn't really directly related to the original issue but what happens to existing Vista users once W7 comes out? I am wondering why Microsoft doesn't just offer a free upgrade for existing Vista users since W7 is somewhat similar to Vista (IMO) and at least this will consolidate different versions of Windows...

What do you guys think?

Vista works perfectly fine, and Microsoft isnt going to suddenly drop supporting or selling Vista once 7 is released

I think it is after July 1st.

If you buy a Vista machine after July 1st... Microsoft is offering a "discounted" upgrade. I don't know the details though. I think it will probably be in the 50 -75 dollar range.
