Does Dell e1705/9400 support T7500

Thread Starter
I got a sweet deal from a friend of mine who is going to sell me a T7500 for $50. The problem is, T7500 is 800Mhz. Will my dell e1705 support it?

Thanks!

It should work, with the FSB stepping down. You might experience a bit warmer running system (35W vs 31W)

No, it won't work.

What he said. Your chipset wont recognize it.

And which chipset are we talking about here?

cheers ...
945 chipset
945 chipset family consists of GM, GMS and PM.

Whilst the GMS does not support Core 2 DUO, the other 2 do. So, unless the OP's machine has the GMS variant, it should be able to support the C2D T7500, with a bit warm in the running.

His computer supports T7200, T7400, and T7600 (as well as lower-grade CPU's). It does not support the T7500. This is because his computer only supports Socket M and the T7500 is socket P.

Hey again GHN! Gotcha on all that, so in theory my 2yr old laptop with i945GM/PM chipset should run with a T7500? should i go to an older CPU to play it safe?
Fyi for everyone else, i've got a Compaq C300 with a Calistoga i945GM/PM shipped with Celeron M 420 1.6Ghz
post #11 of 18
zzpulp was more sure than I am, in this CPU swap. So it is probably safer to go with an older CPU.

But if you can ask the seller to allow a trial with money back if it does not work, give it a shot. Either the notebook will start, or not.

Cheers ghn,

Anyone reccomend a chip to try?! lol

The 7500 will not physically fit in the socket on your motherboard. It will not work, do not buy it.

I'd recommend either the T7200 or T7400. It really depends on what CPU you currently have though.
