Hi,

I need to open Acer ASpire 1660 to replace the CD drive.

But how is it opened?

Thanks in advance

At the bottom, you should be able to push the release latch above the optical bay, and pull it out.

Hi

thanks for your reply

But where? Must I remove the case? I do not see any latch

Read the manual and compare it to our model. Can you also post a pic of your bottom case? Make you that you mask the Windows COA code and the model's serial number before taking the pic.

I attach a capture of the manual of my model, but I cant see any about how to extract the optical drive:

(the CD drive is on left side)

this image is equal to my laptop

In your case, you probably have to remove the keyboard first, and there should be a screw that holds the optical drive. Un-screw this and slide the optical drive out.

Use this as a reference.

qhn - When accessing the bottom of the comp. , is it safe to turn the computer completely upside down without causing too much pressure on the back of the screen ?????

Just for future reference, or shud I rest it on the hinge ?

(perhaps I shud have posted this separately ?

It is not a bad idea to pay attention on where pressure points are being applied.

I do find that notebooks are well built enough to be able to rest upside down. One just needs to take care not to apply too much pressure when removing screws.

qhn thanks for feedback

Putting it upside down on something soft is probably the best bet.
