Dv9000 DVD player

Hello, I am having a very strange problem with my Dv9000. When I go to play a DVD it plays but very choppy like a scratched disk. I have tried many other DVD's and they all play this way. The movie seems to be going and stopping constantly. I have checked the processor and ram and they are not even being put under and load so I know it is not that. At least I think. I have also tried to use different programs to play the movies and the same thing. Could I have a bad dvd-rw drive?
Thank you Sal

. What media player are you using?

. Codecs?

. Check the DMA mode within the disk controller in device manager?

Ok. I checked the region setting and it was US. The DMA mode setting was set for DMA if avalible and I have the divix codec installed. I tried a difffernt movie I purchased from the store yesterday and still the same thing. Any opinions on where to look next. Oh yes I have tried to play the dvd with vlc, windows media and hp quick play and all do the same.

ok, problem fixed. Thank You for your help QHN. The mode was DMA if avaliable but the current mode was pio. I had to uninstall the device and restart. The device reinstalled to dma mode 2 and everything works perfect. Thank You again
