Gateway 6518GZ will not boot

Ok here is what happened. I was using the laptop when a window opened and said Windows display diolog has stopped responding. To reboot the computer and it will restore it. Well I did that and now I can turn it on but nothing shows up on the screen.

We can try a few simple things first:

. Remove the battery, the ac adapter. Press and hold down the power button for 30-40secs. Put the battery and ac back, try again.

. Re-seat ram modules, swap them around.

. Re-seat hard drive.

Would it make any differences if you try to boot from an installation CD?

Im about to go into the computer and check the power jack to see if it need to be solder back on. Do you think that could be the problem?

Beacuse if you move the cord it will turn the pc off.

We do have many threads/posts in the section with discussion as how to go about repairing the power jack.
