The m15x is my favorite laptop of all time but the quality felt cheap to me when I played with a friend's and the hinge was horrifying. I thought it was going to snap so I didn't even close it lol made him do it. All the laptops put by alienware by far are bought through different manufacturers and basically relabeled. The new m17x is designed by alienware and produced by dell.
I still dream about my own m15x lmao

I've been part of a few A.W. forums for a few years and have owned the M9700, still own the M9750 and the M17.
This is the first time I have ever heard of a hinge issue on any of the 17" models. Ever. Even on the multitudes of rebrands. Mine all feel the same as the day they were bought and I'm very rough on them. The Chassis on all three, and the durability on all three is the main plus to me. IMO they are some of the most durable ever made.
The m15x is another story. It has had many, many hinge failures.
Sorry, but your post seems very odd to me. I've just never heard of any hinge issue on the m9700, m9750, or the M17.
You've got to have some really bad luck. I feel for ya.
