So my question, and it is a very important question indeed, is will this amazing laptop ship in an Alienware box or a Dell box? This could be a determining factor for many :P

I would suspect AW box as they are still being made in Miami.

The factory in Miami is gone they have shipped the manufacturing to Dell warehouses...
Little surprise here. Why keeping Miami factory when Dell has everything in one place?

cheers ...

I live in Miami, have toured the facility just a few weeks ago, etc. Don't know why you say the factory is gone in Miami. What are you basing that off of, my statement was based on what I saw with my own 2 eyes.

From what I have heard they are closing it down..shipping production overseas cheaper to make stuff and make a bigger profit...

It will be shipped in a nice black Alienware box.. Dell is not building these systems. The ODM is building them.

Nice spec's..

You will find very liitle with the Dell name on it in the box's. They tried very hard to keep the Dell name out of the picture except where legal required..

That is some nice specs. I actually priced this on their site with this exact config a few days ago. I am debating on taking the plunge as I have an interested buyer in my Gateway. This is very tempting..

Alienware really looks like they did some good work with this--can't wait for the review.

Which previous notebook had a problem with this?
IMHO my previous m9700, m9750, 2 of my friends' m15x, and a guy on another forums m17. The m9700, 9750 an m17 are all the same chasis besides the thicker m17 but they have the same hinges and the become hella loose after a few weeks. I mean they wobble a good inch. The m15x is my favorite laptop of all time but the quality felt cheap to me when I played with a friend's and the hinge was horrifying. I thought it was going to snap so I didn't even close it lol made him do it. All the laptops put by alienware by far are bought through different manufacturers and basically relabeled. The new m17x is designed by alienware and produced by dell.
I still dream about my own m15x lmao

I've been part of a few A.W. forums for a few years and have owned the M9700, still own the M9750 and the M17.

This is the first time I have ever heard of a hinge issue on any of the 17" models. Ever. Even on the multitudes of rebrands. Mine all feel the same as the day they were bought and I'm very rough on them. The Chassis on all three, and the durability on all three is the main plus to me. IMO they are some of the most durable ever made.

The m15x is another story. It has had many, many hinge failures.

Sorry, but your post seems very odd to me. I've just never heard of any hinge issue on the m9700, m9750, or the M17.

You've got to have some really bad luck. I feel for ya.
