Grand Turismo 5 (PS3) - Page 2

So my MOMO wheel does work with the game, but some of the buttons don't, and I can't assign them, meaning I can't switch views (no select button), and navigating the menus is a pain without a d-pad. I'm going to see if I can get the game to recognize both my pad and the wheel at the same time, so I can use both.

I started my game with a Toyota Corolla from the used car garage (it had more power than the Civic or others), and it actually doesn't look too bad (for a standard car), running around the track. My bonus pre-order cars are actually put into my garage, which means I save having to buy a McLaren F1

Getting gold on some of the licenses is extremely frustrating (I have yet to get gold on B-5 and B-6). I may just focus on all silver. I did open the Top Gear test track after one of my races, so I'm going to try that out tonight

I haven't even touched the online stuff yet... there's just way too much in there, and I'm not much of an online guy (but this is one game where I just might indulge).

The install did take me 40 minutes, including the patch beforehand.

Whew... maybe some more updates later

I can use the gamepad and wheel simultaneously by switching the gamepad to controller 1. The wheel still works for racing

Yes and no... Completing the licenses will unlock the race events, so it is required for GT mode. You can play all you want in Arcade mode, however.

Jesus. I hate them for that.

Source? Reality sez differently:

According to metacritic, GT5 has 86 whereas Forza 3 has 92.

For example, lets see what IGN said:
lets see what IGN said about the graphix between the two:

Forza 3:
9.0 Graphics
Some great car models and it runs smoothly for the most part. The lighting isn't perfect, and neither are some of the damage effects.
9.5 Presentation
A simple, but easy-to-use menu system, loads of options, and a British narrator. Score!
9.4 Overall

GT5:
9.0 Graphics
It's moments of sheer beauty ultimately outweigh the uglier ones, though sadly they don't quite outnumber them.
7.0 Presentation
A cumbersome front-end and minimal, overlong loading screens hinder it, as do a series of other strange design choices.
8.5 Overall

EA says GT5 is "Sterile"; Codemasters says it's "Boring".

And lets not forget, forza 4 is coming next year...

Seems like a mix-up in the presentation/graphic area scoring. From that clip alone, car details and scenery are much better in GT5 than in Forza 3. Dashboard presentation is more real in GT5.

A couple pics... The Ferrari is so damn real looking That was just a pause during a replay, then a few setting changes in photo mode...

And leave it to GT5 for letting me run a nascar in the FR challenge lol
It was actually quite a good car, and the 850HP ate up the competition

I dunno about that. For a game that has been in development as long as GT5, many expected better results. I think while GT5 was in development both forza 2 and 3 were released. And GT5 still needed a patch to enable online. Thats kind of embarrassing.

I have not seen one single game that does not require some sort of patches when it first comes out

It's frustrating for sure for fans and developers that the game was sooooo behind schedule. It'll get better; GT5 with patches (and GT6 just around the corner) and Forza4

cheers ...

Actually, the patch wasn't to fix the online portion, but to enable it. The problem was that many people got the game earlier than the release date, and it was no wonder that the online portion wasn't enabled yet.

Yes there are definitely some flaws in the game (standard cars, being just one of the big ones), but overall, it's a good game. I haven't tried Forza, and probably never will, because I've never owned an xbox.

That said, there will always be a continuous fight/disagreement between Sony/MS, GT/Forza fans. For me, I don't care if Forza is better or worse than GT, because I'm invested in GT now.

I don't see the arguments about if GT5 or Forza3 is better

Both games cater to their fans preferences, with pluses and minuses. Some parts of GT5 will be better for some, as with Forza3.

GT5 gets update 1.03, includes mechanical damage

- mechanical damage
- featuring the option of including either none, light or heavy damage.
- 150MB to download

Upcoming patch allowing back-up saved games should be here by end of the month.

cheers ...

Mechanical damage for online races only... so of no consequence for those of us who have yet to play online.

A new patch is on the way that would allow users to switch certain car models from standard to premium mode. More to come.

$600??? wow

If the experience is up to par and real enough, it's a lot cheaper than taking a spin in Nürburgring race track

I shudder to think about investing $$$ in other components that go with it (large screen TV, sound system ...)

cheers ...
