Help with Gateway MD7818u. [ Mice Problem. ]

Alright, hey guys, I'm having trouble trying to get a wireless mouse to work with my Gateway Laptop MD7818u.

I just recently bought a Microsoft Wireless Mouse. Same as this.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218008374038

& it doesn't seem to function with my Laptop. I'm thinking the mouse should be a Plug and Play thing but that's just not happening.

The mouse is connected via USB and the lights and everything is on just still no luck with movement with the mouse.

I've tried doing a "Update Driver." but always get this message.

Mentioning that an error occured during the installation of the device. & that the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. [ & I have Vista. ]

That Microsoft Mouse works perfectly fine with my cousin's Laptop [ Sony VAIO. ] But doesn't seem to work on mine.

If anyone knows any solution to getting this fixed, I would really appreciate it. Thank you. *Sigh.

Very strange. Is your Vista up to date? There should be no reason for external mouse driver to be needed.

Have you a different usb port?

Yeah I think my Vista is up to date.

I don't know a way to check that it is not.

And yes I have 4 different USB ports on the Laptop, tried each and every one of em and the mouse still doesn't work. I just don't know what else to do..

Press Start>All Programs>Windows Update and it will check to see if you are up to date.
Have you tried installing the "mouse software" to see if that makes a diff??

Yeah, I've done the Windows Update and I'm up to date with Windows.

As for the Mouse Software? I'm not sure what that is. The mouse just came by itself, no software.

Aaah, yes. Got it to work. I just went to Microsoft and downloaded the software for it.

Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it.
