Hi there,
I just bought a acer aspire 4310. I installed windows xp sp2 into it but the program kept saying that it couldn't detect any hard disk. I went back to the store and the storekeeper said 4310 only supports windows vista. Anyone can help me ? Thanks.

What kind of HD (SATA)? You may need to install HD drivers

How can I install HD drivers? and what kind can you suggest?
You never stated what kind of HD is in the computer. If it is a SATA drive you will need to find a driver so XP can ID the drive and allow you to install it. I would suggest you search Acer website or the HD manufacturer site for the needed driver

If it was me I'd keep the Vista, I am running Vista on my Aspire 5100 and it hums. No problems, everything works.

Is Windows Vista not good for our Acer Aspire 4310?

Good news, they gave me a compatible driver for WINDOWS XP.

Here's the instructions and other drivers for your ACER Aspire 4310.

First of all, the problem you're facing is because your hardisk is a SATA hardisk. You therefore need some SATA drivers and the files has to be installed from an external USB Floppy drive before any WinXP SP2 installation is possible.

For further details, please e-mail me for the SATA files and further instruction on the actual installation

Look. Download Windows XP Colossus Edition 2 from this link: http://www.taringa.net/posts/downloa...-links%22.html

After download it, try to install it and..... it works. It has all SCSI, SATA and everything you want about drivers. It really works. You don´t need to use a Floppy disk USB. Good luck.

I think the only solution is to use a USB floppy drive, they can be had for around $18 on pricewatch.com. I don't think there is any way to tell it to look anywhere else than A:\

Look. Do that. Download Windows Colossus Edition 2 from the internet. It has sp2 and lots of applications to install. Also it has the drivers you need to have no problems with the installation of windows xp. You don´t need to buy a USB Floppy drive. Believe me. I did it and my client thanks me for the solution. Yours sincerelly... Paul

hi,
there are a lot of problem today about the latest notebook especially to install the window xp.it's coz by using the SATA in the newest notebook.you are required to prepare an external floppy A and a diskett.install the AHCI from the resource cd@ download it from website.you should boot the cdrom as the 1st boot, usb floppy for 2nd boot and then hdd for 3rd boot.then you should follow the direction of formatting window

I chossed the other option... When boot the machine press F2 to enter set up. change the HDD type from SATA to IDE then save and continue with XP set up. The HDD can be identified.
