XPS M1330 and Nvidia GPU Issue - Did they fix it?

I am thinking about buying a new XPS M1330 with Nvidia card(can't be intel, must be Nvidia for me). But I have read so many reports on the GPU going out and the motherboard being replaced over and over(per a user). My question is, if I bought a new one would mine have this potential flaw or did they fix this iwith a re-design? Or is this issue not as big as it seems?

The problem with the GPU's were in the 79xx series, I believe the newer ones have been better, but at the same time the 8400 and 8600 series GPUs are not as powerful either. Still they are better than the built in intel versions.

Second, the if you plan on keeping the laptop for a few years then purchasing the 3 year warranty only makes sense, the first repair will pay for it easily. Laptops are going to fail way more than desktops.

last, I think some would say that the over all quaity of the Dell laptops has dropped, I think even more so with the off shore support that the quality of service has really hit bottom.

Over all I been happy with my units, and have had little problems with any of them.

My question to you would be if your thinking of gaming, then maybe something else should be considerd.

no, the issue is with the 8* series nvidia's gpus. i called tech support and they the issue is where it usually takes a year, and as far as they know there hasn't been a redesign. but in dells defense, it wasn't dell's fault...fault laid on nvidia. thier gpu's in apple's also had the same problem. it's a shame because the m1330 is really a great laptop...nvidia messed it up.

it isn't fixed, there is a hope and pray mentality at dell.. all you can do is hope you get a decent one, just keep your warranty up for as long as possible. it will fail, always! anyone who tells you different doesn't know yet

if you don't need the nvidia card then you'll be fine with the intel. i only need the nvidia for linux drivers.

well its either the 8400 or integrated crap. I would rather have the nvidia to have the option to game, but that's clearly not worth it if the motherboard is going to crap out all the time.

I'm looking at the macbooks also. Why do you want one so badly?

i thought it would be a fun little game machine, but it sucked ass. after 5 bad gpu's, i talked dell into replacing the motherboard with one with on board Intel graphics and i couldn't be happier. runs very cool and gets much better battery life. if i want to game i have other machines for that. if you really want to game, the 1330 is definitely not for you

ok that's all i needed to hear. I originally was looking at the m1330 because of its dedicated option...now that I'm not going that route, is there any other system you'd recommend looking at?

depends on what you want. alienware makes a 15 discreet that is supposed to game well, but for me it is all or nothing. i have a 1730 for games and a 1330 for travel. i find it hard to compromise on power or portability, so i don't

but when i was poor, i had a 17" with a discreet gpu, it was a decent gamer (9300 with a 6800 gs i believe) so i guess i used to compromise... if i had to go to one machine i would keep my m1730. but if you really need something to lug around that is a terrible choice... this bastard is f@@kin heavy!!!

i want a macbook pro because i don't game and i like the unibody look and feel. but if you game, i would recommend one of those dell xps alienware laptops. i saw this guy at a coffee shop who had one. he was playing some MMO game. that laptop looked so cool! the graphics and power on it were very powerfull(very fluid). the asethtics of the laptop were cool to! it had all these led's and blue lights. for me it was way to big...a monster. lol...the powerpack for the cord looked like a brick. but if i was a gamer that would be my number 1 pic.
