NON-fan cooling pads?

Thread Starter
Anybody know which FANLESS cooling pads reduce the temp of CPU by, at least, 5 degress? Right now, my DV1000 idles at 54 C (129 F) when room temp is 75 F. I know of the following cooling pads:

Lapinator

ThermaPAK

Ixoft thermaltake pad

xpad

Anyone familiar with them?

Thanks in advance.

I doubt you'll find anything fanless cooling pads that can do what you're looking for. If 54C is high for your processor temp, you can open up your notebook and clean out any accumulated dust, which may keep the temps lower.

However, just to let you know, 54C is well within limits of Pentium M processors. They're pretty much fine unless they go above 85C.

I already cleaned ALL dust, etc from the fan, heatsink, and around the CPU, but it's stll 54 C idle, and up to 63-65 C just browsing the web. At that point, the noisy fan kicks in. Is there anything else i can try to lower the temp? If not, do you know of a quiet CPU fan to replace the one in my DV1000?

You could try taking off and cleaning your heatsink and CPU die with isopropyl alcohol then using Arctic Silver 5 thermal grease on them for a better heat transfer. I'm not sure what the gain in temperature would be compared to the Intel thermal grease that's probably on there now, but it's a possibility.

I put thermal grease on the CPU, NOT Arctic Silver 5, but it made little difference, maybe half a degree....I recall my old Dell Inspiron 500m was VERY cool, an astounding 28 C when idle, and about 40 C on load! Also, the fan on it, was pretty quiet, too, alas, the DC jack broke. Anyway, this means there's something wrong with the design of the DV1000 and most new notebooks, in general. The 500m has a Pentium M@1.3 MHz and the DV1000 has one at 1.6 MHz. That means, it probably can't be this, either. So, nobody has tried any of those cooling pads, or do they simply NOT work well??

They work, but not for what you're looking for. Fanless coolers dissipate heat from the case of the notebook, which can make the notebook more comfortable to have in your lap, but will not necessarily make the internal components run any cooler.

Well, at least i know now NOT to get them, but is there anything else i can do, besides what's been mentioned, to make "the internal components run cooler"?
