I've had this laptop for less than 4 months and didn't have this problem until about the past 2 weeks. It affects watching any videos and listening to any music files on my computer. When watching streaming internet videos, at random moments, for example, for 2 seconds in a 15 minute clip, a loud audio/video stutter will occur, even when the video has completely buffered, if someone is in the middle of saying something one syllable will be repeated 3-5 times, video will hitch, and then things will continue on as normal. At first I thought it was just on one site but its happening on multiple sites, in both flash and divx players, both of which I have up to date.
Now I don't think its even an internet issue, because its happening with video and music files I have on both internal and external hard drives. At seemingly random intervals the video will hitch, a syllable of dialogue will stutter, for 2-4 seconds, and then things will continue on. This happens playing movies straight from a DVD as well. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1. It has Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3400 @2.16ghz and 4GB of RAM.
I didn't have any of these issues prior to the last few weeks. I have broadband wireless internet, and other computers on the network play media files fine. I have kept up with windows updates, run regular scans that have come up empty, and everything else is running fine and normal so I don't think its any sort of virus or malware causing this. The only significant system change I've made in this recent time span is my Norton trial expired so I uninstalled it and have a paid full subscription to CA Security Suite, which includes both firewall and antivirus. Its the first time I've ever used it so I'm not sure if one of its many settings could be causing this. I've looked and looked for answers and tried to get help elsewhere but have come up with absolutely nothing, any help is appreciated.
