Hi Michelle, Sorry to keep pushing you, but still no idea about my N problem ????

or should I ask Intel (gotta feeling they wouldn't know the answer either !)

could be their thing needs reprogramming.

If u want to close the question just tell me, and I won't push u any more on it :-)

OK, thanks Michelle.....I shall be patient..

been checking on Wikipedia and it seems for the moment that different countries are applying their own thing.

Still doesn't help with the contradictory properties of Intel' WiFi Link tho ?

Please don't forget me.........

Anyway I shall be away for a week from Monday.....I know I shud shutdown the computer,
would it also be best to unplug it as well ??????

Thanks a lot

Yes, incase of any electrical storms than you wont have to worry about electrical damage

Hi Michelle,

My 100th post especially for you ! Congrats !

well, looked into it. some people have had issues with upload speeds but nothing with not connecting at 300mbps. I still think that it is a setting, perhaps 40MHz channel bonding is not enabled or it is not using subchannels.

only thing I can say is contact d-link and see if they can tweak the settings for you.

Hi Michelle, thanks for the info. Last time I logged in to the router I set it up for 20-40 Mhz.
Well I suppose I could contact d-link, but it still leaves unresolved the wireless modes on the network adapter. Do u think I should also give all that info to Intel to see what they have to say as mode n is there but I have to set the last property to one of those six possibilities, which contradict the n mode. ???

Michelle, I'm just wondering if I should try uninstalling the Intel 5100 AGN WiFi adapter and then try reinstalling it again from eRecovery

But it would most possibly give the same properties ???

I tried the above and obviously it gave me the same properties !
and it was an older version so I had to update the driver as well.

Hi Michelle,
I was talking to a technician in a local store today about this "N" problem, and he thinks it's linked to the encryption on the router. I have WPA and want to go up to WPA2.
He say's I should encrypt to WEP and that should solve the problem, which I doubt.
I think I'm going to give the whole story to Intel and see what they have to say, as I don't see any other way out of this crazy situation. As it's their product they should be able to give some kind of answer.

I'll give you feedback once I've got a reply

Thanks for your patience and help !

Michelle, I gave the whole story about this "N" connection to Intel.
they've already given me a couple of links (automated replies; which probably don't take into account all the info I gave them)

I have yet to check these links out and see if they help. If not I have go and click on an escalation link to contact a technician and hopefully I don't have to explain the whole thing again as it takes a lot of time !!!

I have another question (anyone can reply )
I have Intel ProWireless, and when I open the window it doesn't give me the version nor update driver possibilities in -properties-
I went to the Intel website where it was possible to click on a service that checks my Wifi
adapter and ProWireless. It found that my ProWireless is not the latest version, and proposed me a download ; When I clicked on the download it brought up a kind of virtual spark and thats all, so I couldn't download it. I've come across this "spark" before and am wondering what it means ????? Does anybody know ????
Normally, these things come available with an Update Driver tab in the Properties Section, but this one is not like that. How can I get this new Version. I mainly want to know what this --spark-- is when I click on -Download-. and eventually get back to Intel about that altho I want to get my -N- problem fixed first. Anyone got any ideas please. Thanks
Terry

You can forget about the Intel ProWireless --Spark-- question.

I just realized it was because I had the Pop-Ups blocked....so I managed to download it in the end.....not that it makes much difference.

try a different router.

Yes, I was thinking about buying another router : but I see the problem in the Network Adapter (I might be wrong of course).

Anyway, before that I am going to have to give the whole story again to Intel or perhaps I could download the 4965, but that's going backwards, and I don't think I can download that from the Acer site.

The links Intel gave me didn't serve any purpose. and why they ask for all the info I don't know, it's always the same thing, you give the info, get an automated reply, and if u need more help you have to type all the info in again

Hi Michelle, Good News !

I finally worked it all out (and not thanks to Intel).

I logged into the router and set it to WPA2 AES encryption, "N" only.
(it had to be WPA2 for N)
Then went into Device Manager, and checked the properties again and
changed CTS..to self, to RTS/CTS (Request to Send/Clear to Send) , need that for N.
then changed to WPA2 AES on the Network Adapter.
I am now running at 150 mbps, peaking for the moment at 243 mbps which is not bad
for a max 300 mbps router !

I'm finally happy we can now close this thread, which I got fed up with seeing it always at the top of the list :-))

So even the expert technician who said I needed WEP got it all wrong !!!

thanks again for the help you tried to give me, appreciate you bearing with me all this time

Terry

PS : Don't know whether it has anything to do with it, but my CPU is down to roughtly 4 pct
when idle now......was about 7 before.

By the way, in the Wireless box I had to select something so I set that to -g-
On the router it gives the Status as Ng, but I'm not in mixed mode. so that probably doesn't influence anything....I'm happy !!!

Cool, this is not the 1st time I heard/read about using WPA2 AES to improve transfer connectivity speed. It is set!

cheers ...

I've been peaking just now at the max router speed of 300 mbps, perhaps thats due to the fact that it's 5h30 am here, and that there's not too much RF noise around.
