Latest greatest video driver

Thread Starter
I've been out of the loop for few years, as in, not paying much attention to my i9100 (w/ATI 9800...unmodded).
Now I've totally dumped and reloaded it with XP pro and I am using whatever MS uses for a v-driver when there is nothing else. Everything else has been updated with the latest from the Dell site, and XP Pro too.

I use this rig for light to medium duty gaming, and soon, I hope, watching net TV on it....and then all the other standard computery things that don't really need anything fancy for a video driver.

As I recall, many years ago when I first got this rig and dumped it, it is a big deal to install video drivers...or was it a big deal to get rid of the old ones? I seem to remember driverheaven and driver cleaner and loading in safe mode.....

Anyway...where are we at with video drivers for my useage/equipment. Still Omegas...or should I go the ATI Catalyst route? I sometimes got a fatal error that MS would blame on ATI control center; maybe that should be avoided (anybody else get those problems?).

My wetware has memory gaps, and searching only reminded me of issues, didn't really solve anything. Suggestions appreciated.

You are safe to go with ATI pure. I stopped using Omega since 6.4 Catalyst with my mobility 9700.

The current one is 9.2 on my machine. No break, no update, so we say.

re: ATI Pure

Thanks, that was default decision.
One last thing (again due to fuzzy memories):
Is it better to get from ATI or use what Dell puts on their Driver Update page...or is it all the same? One would hope Dell does the right thing, but one (me), never knows...

I would always first go with what the manufacturer puts out in their Support Site.
