Which should i buy, Asus g50vt or Asus g71g?

Thread Starter
I've been saving up money to buy a new gaming laptop to play all the latest games and i saw this great deal on newegg for a g50vt-X6.

However, i noticed asus now has a g71g. I wus wonderin if it would be a good idea to wait and save up some more money to buy the g71g. I have $1300 saved up so should i get the g50vt which i already have enough money to buy or the g71g which is more expensive. Which laptop would be better to play Call of Duty World at War or any game that demanding. Is there really a difference between the two laptops, a big enough difference to wait and save up more money for the g71g? Also is it true that the g50vt has a turbo/overclock mode and and the g71g doesnt? Does that really make a difference?

The video card in both notebooks is the same, so the real difference is between the dual-core and quad-core processor, screen sizes and resolutions, and the addition of a Blu-Ray drive on the G71G. Since your primary focus is gaming, I'd get the G50Vt. It's got a slightly lower native resolution, which means games will run better at native res, and most current games are limited in how many CPU cores they can take advantage of, so currently a higher clock speed is more preferable than more cores for gaming.

My G50vt-x5 with the stock p7xxx series cpu and 9800m gs card at gts speed played cod WAW at average 70-91 fps. The game is capped at 91 also. The is really the only bottleneck in many stock G50s, but later on you can throw up to a t9900 or an x9100 which I have in mine. Crysis warhead gets and average 30+ frames on 1366X768 reso and on all gamer settings. I got 3dmark 06 on 1280x768 reso up to 10+k.

The overclocking possiblities are great on these laptops bothe the G50 and G70.

Even without OCing you get 9-9500 on 3dmark

I agree the G50 would be good. And unless some option on the G71 screams at you I would get the good deal on the G50.

The only difference is the size and G71 series' bios supports quad core. I know some people who have tried booting up a quad cpu inside a G50 but it will not go into the OS. Highest you can go on a dual core is t9900 or x9100. T9900 can be oc'd up to 4ghz. I've reached 3.5 with my x9100, stopped at that due to the heat it pushes out, 10 watts more than the t9900.
