Difference between AR190G and AR170P

I have a Sony VGN-AR190G that needs a motherboard replacement. Replacing the motherboard is something I can do easily, but I'm having trouble finding a reasonably priced replacement board.

I have found a board for a VGN-AR170P, but I was wondering what the difference between the two would be. Is the only difference just the hardware? Or is there something on the board that would prevent me from using it in my AR190.

thanks

Not doing one myself I can only suggest that you:

. physically check that both boards are the same (screws locations etc ..)

. verify that the BIOS for the one would work with the other's devices (chipset)

. hardware device connectors match? Pay attention to LCD connector, keyboard and optical drive.

What about the restore disks. I have some S360P restore disks I've tried in a S360 and the recovery program detected that it wasn't the correct model. So I'm wonder if my 100G series recovery disks will work with a 170P series board.

What do sony restore disks look at when determining the model? Is it just the bios?

I don't think it is just the BIOS but also the machine/board serial number.

The recovery disks will not work if you put the wrong mother board in. If you change the mother board you'll need the recovery disks for that board or a retail copy of the OS.
