2nd User Latitude D630 - Image Restore ??

Hi,

How would I find out if the Dell Image Restore/Recovery Partition was still present on a Dell Latidude D630 ?

I am going to look at the machine with a view to purchase it and the vendor states the HDD is 148gb but the service tag factory configuration indicates 160gb. The missing 12gb tends to make me think the restore/recovery partition may still be intact ?

Were the D630's all shipped with a recovery partition irrespective of the operating system, ie, XP or Vista or was it O/S related ?

Thx for any help.

Keep in mind that disk manufacturers use a decimal definition of GB (1 billion bytes) instead of binary (2^30 bytes). 160 billion would show as about 149GB in Windows' Disk Management.
"Dell Image Restore/Recovery Partition"...

"Were the D630's all shipped with a recovery partition irrespective of the operating system, ie, XP or Vista or was it O/S related ?"

Dell's Vista systems typically ship with a "Recovery" partition. It's visible and shows up in Vista's "Computer" with a drive letter (typically D: ) in the list of drives. It is a partition of about 10GB in front of the main Vista partition.

Dell's XP consumer models (Dimension desktops and Inspiron laptops) included a "DellRestore" partition that was semi-hidden. It does not show up (in "My Computer") with a drive letter, but could be seen in XP's Disk Management as a partition of about 3-5 GB with no drive letter at the very end of the disk.

Dell's XP business models (which includes the Latitudes) typically did not include any restore or recovery image at all.

There were occasional exceptions, but that's the general rule of thumb.

Latitudes do not get recovery partitions....EVER. Latitudes come with Windows reinstallation media (unless a customer is a Microsoft VLK user where you can opt to not get media)

The "Missing" 12GB isn't missing at all. A hard drive advertised as 160GB formats to 148-149GB.
