camera programs not responding

Hey guys i got a macbook. Everything is fine with it, except when i try to use photobooth, ichat or any program that uses my camera. What happens is it will bounce as if it were to load, then there is just a question mark in front of the program. I have tried opening them up through spotlight, but still nothing is working. I have tried searching the forums and looked in my Everything Mac user guide. Sorry if i missed something. Any help to get this working would be great.

alright so i kept searching for awhile and found that i should reinstall my software. After i did that photobooth and ichat worked fine. But i got a new problem. My idvd does not work. It says there was an error in launching the program. I will continue to search for an answer, but i have to leave for work. Any help on that would be great.

Thanks

If you open up the Console (Applications>Utilies>Console.app) and try to launch iDVD does anything get put there?

when i followed those directions i came to a page with a list of actions displayed. I saw a few that said Idvd canceled, and other things similar. Before that page i saw idvd and all my other applications in the section. I have tried that but still it says an error has occurred. I can either send a report to apple, relaunch, or ignore.

Ahh, it crashed. It didn't just not open. Yes that is a bug, send the report to apple, and sit back and twiddle your thumbs. Sorry no better explanation for it.

Unless something on your console gives you a clue WHY it crashed, without the source code there is no farther that I could go with that.

Ok truthfully even with the source code i probably wouldn't do much more just because I hate trying to learn how new programs are written and I suspect that was written in Obj-C which is not one of my languages of choice

Ok i did send that to apple the other night. sorry for all the questions, but this is what i do not understand. As i previously stated my camera programs were not operating. When those were not working, my idvd would work. thats when i reinstalled the software and the camera applications worked, then my idvd stopped. So is that still a crash? sorry i am new to all this...

Thanks

A program crash is when a program executes an illegal operation, forcing the operating system to kill the program in order to maintain stability. So yes, that is absolutely still a crash.

You could also reinstall iDVD as well and see if that fixes your issue I suppose. It is sounding like something might be screwed up at a somewhat deep level in your system, but I can't be sure without knowing more.

Is your iLife suite updated? I'm wondering if there are parts that have been upgraded while others have not? Permissions repair? On occasion my USB TV tuner will stop displaying a picture. Permissions repair fixes it.
