I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-11H for almost an year now, and lately it has begun causing me a lot of trouble, most of which I am able to fix myself. The last thing is my VGA out not working anymore. Here is some background on the issue:
My laptop in a big multi-monitor setup with one big TFT plugged in the VGA out and 4 smaller TFTs connected trough 2 other PCs and MaxiVista all running on Windows XP SP3. This setup worked perfectly until I decided to take a 2 week vacation and took the laptop with me. When I came back the TFT hooked to my VGA out was not working anymore giving a 'No Signal' message. Of course I tried switching monitors/cables but only to experience the same results.
Things got strange whens when I tried restarting the laptop. When an external monitor is connected at POST it usually routes the video to the external display, but now both the notebook and the external displays were showing no picture. This led me to a conclusion that the secondary display is detected and signal is routed to it, but the signal never reaches the display.
I thought the video card might have some flash memory with stored configuration and decided to reset it by reinstalling graphic drivers. During the installation my external screen started to flicker and looked like this: http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/1493/img000026yvc.jpg (an old CRT with resolution set too high). After about 30 seconds the monitor turned off, meanwhile I managed to look at the Display Properties and my external display was set to 640x480@4bits. I rebooted the laptop and the VGA out was not working once more.
After that I tried different things like installing the monitor driver and booting the computer under Ubuntu but to no avail.
Is there a solution or is it a dead hardware problem?
