Aspire 5738G - 800MHz CPU FSB but 1066MHz DDR3 RAM??!!!!

Thread Starter
I was planning to buy the Aspire 5738G model:
http://www.newtechnology.co.in/acer-...8g-pricespecs/
But then I noticed this in the specs:
Intel Core2 Duo CPU T6400 (800 MHz FSB)
4 GB DDR3 1067 MHz RAM
The combination means I will actually get DDR2 performance!
Are these Acer guys trying to trick us??!!!
Either they are nuts, or they take their customers to be so!!!

It sounds like you're a little confused.

In the current (Montevina) platform, the front side bus speed of the processor has absolutely no relation to the speed of the motherboard.

There is little to no benefit of using DDR3 over DDR2 in notebooks based on the Montevina platform due to the incapacity of the memory controller to use anywhere near the bandwidth dual channel memory is capable of.

So Acer didn't need to include DDR3 anyway because it won't increase the notebook's performance, and they're selling the system with a CPU with 800 Mhz FSB to save money. You noticed this, so you can decide to buy something more powerful if you want. But there's no special trickery in the specifications more than what every company does in order to sell products.
