New NP2096 - system appears dead

I would normally not use this venue to get tech support on a new machine, but for the near future I will be in Europe, and I have a pretty big problem with my brand new laptop (pctorque, May 2009) not responding.

The problem: when I push the power button, nothing happens, no matter if I try the battery, try the power cable with the battery removed, or try with both in place. I do not see/hear any indication of any activity on both the machine and screen.
I don't think it's completely dead though, as the USB button next to the power button still works, and with the battery in place and the power cable plugged in, the LED indicator shows that the battery is charging.

Based on these symptoms I would guesstimate that either the power button is broken, or one of the cables connecting it to the notebook's circuits is loose. Is there anything that I could safely attempt that would possibly remedy this problem? Without my notebook, I'm pretty much useless here...

Welcome to NBF,

I would agree with your assumptions but the only way to know for sure is to call tech support. It's free and it's worth the time. It will probably be expensive calling from Europe.

It seems like internal maybe the motherboard. I agree that its best to contact technical support. You can also e-mail them at techsupport@sagernotebook.com.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I'll try contacting tech support. It would be really great if there were some easy-to-perform remedy, the idea that something might be wrong with the motherboard is quite frightening to me. But at the moment I'm not too optimistic. Oh well...
