shift key fell off, how to put back on?

I have an E1505 and the left shift key has fallen off (don't know how since my wife did it). It doesn't appear that anything's broken, but I can't figure out how to get it back on. There's an x-shaped plastic hinge that looks like it hooks at the top and bottom and provides the spring to the keys. But it looks like it would take a flea with some small tools to get that back on.

Has anyone done this? Do I need to remove the keyboard? Any ideas?

If you have a plastic piece in the middle, make sure that it is lifted up.

Hook the key onto the braces on the keyboard where the key is missing, then push the key back down and snap it into place.

I think ...

Well, I managed to break off the Cntrl key trying to get it back on. But that actually showed me that I was missing the little rubber nubby piece in the middle that provides the spring back. So it's not gonna fly anyway. I'll see how much a new keyboard would run me.

I was going to try to rehab the old gal, but perhaps I'll just donate her to a school instead. Poor kids just won't be able to do upper case letters with their left hands.

Hmm, doesn't look like I can buy a replacement keyboard from Dell? Maybe that's only a repair department part and not a DIY fix it part?
