Compaq Armada 6500 HDD

Thread Starter
Hi all, im new to the whole laptop/notebook thing as i mainly use Desktop's, but a friend recently gave me his old compaq armada 6500 and it has everything that came with it apart from the HDD, i just wanted to ask what type of HDD would i need, and where does it go? as the few laptops that ive upgraded have had HDD's which you slide out from the side, and as far as i can see on this laptop it only has the multi bay for the cd-rom drive etc, and 2 pc card slots, could anyone help with this? or is it too old to even bother about?

Thanks in advance

Neil

As far as I read about this, the only one you can squeeze in a 6gigo drive, if you can find it. Sell it for parts is what I would recommend.

its all good now, i removed the battery and connected it strait to the power cable and windows xp loaded without any problems, the only problem i have now is when i connect my ethernet cable for my boradband connection it detects the connection then it says "network cable is unplugged" ive cleaned the ethernet port and the ethernet connecter with a clean cloth, but the connection seems to be very unstable and only connects when it wants to for around 5 seconds,

Very good news. You might want to update the driver for the connectivity issue.

Well it looks like i spoke too soon, i just got the "Blue Screen Of Death" and now it keeps saying "no hard drive installed" again, so im guessing either the HDD isnt spinning right, or its just broken oh well to the bin it goes i guess

Yep. Sound like hard drive is failing. If you get it to boot to safe-mode, try a "chkdsk" and see if you can salvage it.

unfortunatley i cant get it to boot to anything accept the BIOS screen, i remember all i did bwfore was chnage the seetings to the default BIOS settings and it worked, but it doesnt work now, and im guessing the BIOPS wont handle a larger harddrive, although one thing i notice is that before this happened the harddrive would make a loud clicking noise every 3 to 5 seconds, i removed the harddrive and replaced it and the clicking has stopped, and before i could not load my format disk but now i can but i cannot run Ftools and i cannot format the drive,

but at the bottomof the bios screen it says

0208: previous boot incomplete - default congifuration used

and i have no idea what that means

No idea what BIOS does when it misses its steps during the boot up :-)

Take the drive out and put it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes and try again. This is no joke.
