put a 7800 Go GTX in a 9400/E1705?

A friend of mine has a Inspiron E1705 with a now-dead 7900M GTX. I was wondering if it is possible to put a 7800 Go GTX in it? I could do a little upgrade for myself by buying his video-card-less notebook and putting my 9300's 7800Go GTX in.

edit: ok I realized that I posted before searching for some reason. So there are some things in the way inside that make doing this not very practical..... Oh well.

Is it a Go or a GTX ?

The form factor for your 7800GTX from your i9300/M170 is slightly different than the "vanilla" 7800 Go that was used in the i9400/E1705 or the 7900/7950 that were used in the M1710. Because of this you can't use your GTX without major modifications. But if you're willing to try it can be done.

There is a long thread in this forum, about a couple of years old that you'll have to dig-up that goes into detail on how to make it work. But to be honest, I don't know if it's worth the effort, because it requires removing mounting posts, and relocating the on/off button; and if I remember correctly, the screw holes for the card don't line up, so even after the mod the card is only partially secured.

I hope this helps

Ciao
