Compaq c501tu laptop ram upgrade

hi,

i have a Compaq C500 (c501tu) laptop running winXP and want to upgrade to the maximum amount of ram.

According to CPU-Z, there's currently 2 x 256 pc2-4300 (266) mhz installed on the laptop occupying both slots.

i'm planning on buying 2 x 1GB DDR2 667 sticks.

Can anybody tell me if this is ok or can i upgrade 1 slot with a 2GB ram stick?

Specs call for max 2gigo, and I would not recommend pushing the ram speed to more than it is stated.

I would get 2x1gig for a total of 2gigs of ram,i did the same updrade on my C500 and made a huge difference on how vista runs, well worth the upgrade.

That would be 533mhz ram,but if you buy the 667 it will default to the lower speed.

You can normally not. Unless there are some updated BIOS or chipset that is being made available for your system.

hi,

i just check the bios and it does not give any options to change ram speed in c500.

i don't think it is possible.

That was what I thought for this model. Stay with stock ram modules, it is safer than hoping/thinking that the higher speed ram will clock down.
