Toshiba Tecra M9 Keyboard Problem (Phantom button)

Hi People,

I have a Toshy M9 (Vista Pro OS) that is under a year old and is having a funny problem.

The number 8 button on the keyboard doesn't work when I press it. It works by itself and keeps on pumping out (88888888 etc) when I have any program open that is capable of text input. Even the Windows login gets the 88888 problem.

Can anyone help! Phantom 8 button driving me crazy!

Thanks in advance.

Tristan

I've had this problem before with an external keyboard. The keyboard was physically damaged. I'd start by replacing the keyboard on your notebook.

Hi Steve,

I had a closer look at the keyboard. It seems that the number 8 key is lower than all the others. It could be keyboard damage.

Thanks

Be careful of the little retainer plastic pieces under the key

Hi there,

I have tried that little trick. I have removed the entire keyboard and found that there seems to be a little indent on the back where the 8 button sits. This could have been the reason.

I think I might just have to replace the keyboard and see what happens.

Thanks for your reply
