T61 - Keyboard & Touchpad issues

Hi Guys,

I recently installed additional Ram into my T61. Since then, I have had issue with the keyboard & touchpad not working every now and again after start up.

I get an error on the screen that SoundMax can't find its driver & I can't use the keyboard or touchpad. I have to plug in a mouse to turn the laptop off. It doesn't have the error every time, but every 3rd or 4th boot-up it will occur.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could correct this?

Note: I have checked the keyboard and touchpad connections under the hood. It all seems to be ok.

Thanks

I hate erroneous errors like this. They're so hard to diagnose. I would start with removing the RAM you just installed.

Hi again Steve,

Something must have come lose when I removed the frontpanel from the front of my T61 to get access to the Ram bay. I might pull the whole keyboard section out, disconnect and reconnect. I'll let you guys know if that did the trick.

Cheers

It is very possible that you might have loosened up a insert while putting the ram stick in.
Its right underneath the touchpad right? if it is, than that might be the problem.
If it doesnt solve, then ya ill go do what steve said. remove it. My older T40 had a damaged ram and it freaked out once in a while.
