F3Jr Crash... hardware fault again!!!???

Finally, after 2 weeks of downtime, I'm able to log in again... my F3jr suddently just kept rebooting 2 weeks ago and Vista wouldn't even start! After the windows splash screen, the laptop would just restart at the ASUS logo screen over and over...

Finally, I just decided to try and do a recovery (suspecting that it could probably be a corrupted driver or even windows getting corrupted). Was I surprised to find that even with a recovery, the BSOD would come out... after trying a couple of time to recover, BSODs would come out with different types of errors: memory management error, cache error, ntfs.sys error... etc... etc..

Eventually, on my nth try to recovery, the system would not even boot up at all... and a large "ERROR = 1" would just appear on the screen.

I brought the unit to the local ASUS service center and after a week of investigation, they advise me that I had a busted hard drive and faulty memory chips... I couldn't believe that after only 4-5 months since they last replaced my memory chips, now they fail again...

Any ideas guys??? Am I over-using my laptop?

Looking at your avatar - I must say that you are OVER using the notebook

I would keep an eye on this, sounding like an issue on the board.

cheers ...

Hahaha... don't worry, I don't take my notebook wheeling if that's what you're seeing on my avatar.

ASUS guys did replace my hard drive and memory chips with new ones... and the notebook seems to be running fine now... question is, for how long. I am worried that maybe after another 5 months of use, I might get the same problem again...

I share your concern. I guess you just have to keep an eye on it, keeping track of all repairs/replacements and hope that this is only a fluke.

I see lots of terrain wheelers taking their notebooks with them and use them as on-board navigation - which is fine.

cheers ...

I just can't seem to believe that both the memory and hard drive broke down at the same time... as you said, hopefully it is just a fluke.

I wouldn't take my notebook four-wheeling... i'd rather use GPS devices to do that.

idk

"memory management error, cache error, ntfs.sys error"

but those errors certainly have something to do with the memory and harddisk tho

and no ur not over using ur laptop
i use my laptop 12 hours everyday
ive had it for so long and still my hardware is in good shape.
