Aspire 9410 - black screen problems intermittent

Aspire 9410 no operating issues but sometimes when booted only black screen Whenever this happens, I connect an exterior monitor and then the screen on my comp pops back on and will stay on even after I disconnect the exterior. It doesn't do this all the time and will flicker (rarely) when in use but never goes completely out when in use. Anyone know why this is and how I can get rid of this problem permanently (outside of getting another computer!)

Check the LCD cable, your inverter could be failing -- cheap and easy to replace.

does the screen go out completely or does the backlight go out? place a flashlight up to the screen and see if you can see anything. If you can see an image, than either the inverter or the lcd has gone out.

if the entire display goes, most likely a mainboard or lcd.

back light

Well, it used to have a back light when it did this but it didn't this last time. But if it were something as serious as any of the possible issues you offer, why would the screen pop on after connecting it to an external monitor and remain on when it is disconnected from said monitor?

Charge residue ... or "cold", once the element heats up, it disconnects ... I think :-)

Physical and visual check ... all you can do, unless you have some proper calibration device.

Please forgive my ignorance but where on my laptop can I actually "see" said cable?

You can see the LCD cable after removing the LCD. Something like in this guide:

The 2nd pic on the 3rd row is your cable.
