Can I upgrade from vista 32bit to win7 64bit on my m15x?

Last I heard you are allowed to move up to the 64 bits version, but not via the upgrade path. You must perform a clean install in this case.

So it is technically possible. However, the AW customer service says that if I were to do that, and I then had to send my computer into them they would reset it to factory settings... as in they would give me Vista again.
Is there someway I can change my "factory settings" to be Win7?
