Replacing the CPU in an Inspiron E1505

My computer has the Intel Pentium T2080 processor. When I talked to Dell, they said that it couldn't be replaced but I noticed that it comes out of its standard PGA478 slot easily. I would hate to spend the money for a new processor without knowing that it will work, so my question is will a core 2 work? If not, would a Pentium from the T2000 series such as the T2130 (the T2080's closest relative) work?

You can replace the CPU no problem,

You can put Core 2 Duo CPU;s in the laptop

Not sure all of the ones, but I can confirm a T5600 works

Thanks! Can I replace the graphics assembly (GeForce go 7300) as well? If so, where would I find one with, say, a 9600m or something?

There are a few options listed for GPU's but not the 9600m that I can see.

I found the x1300, x1400 and 256 Meg NVidea cards.

problem or challange with the GPU options are

1. BIOS compatibility
2. Heat Pipe layout
3. Physical orientation of the card and size
4. GPU interface

There amy well beother cards out there that have the same size and interface slot, but matching the heat Pipe maybe a challange.

It really takes some research to see if there are other cards out there besides the ones defined for your laptop.

Even then the BIOS in youe laptop may not reconize the card, and thus not work

If there are other dell models with simular GPUS that would be the place to start

but it seems you may already have the best GPU already.

Where did you find these?
I could always change the heatpipe (on mine it looks like with not too much difficulty I could take it off), and the interface I would recognize easily... Is there a way I could find out if my BIOS would recognize the new card without actually buying it?

sometimes you can see the video card lists in the BIOS update notes, other info from searching around can help identify what may work.

No, I mean where would I buy one?
