NOW where are you, Tony???

Been awhile since you've been around again. Just wondering if everything is alright?

And yes, this is partially self-serving -- as Dox hasn't released anything since 185.85's (May 17th) and is going on hiatus until end of September/October-ish, TweakForce hasn't released anything since 182.06 (May 28th) and before THAT 177.92's (September 28th, 2008), and you haven't released anything since MAY 2008!

So, it looks like us mobile users will be stuck with old drivers until someone picks up the pace/slack. The 190's are now coming out, and was hoping for some mobiles soon. But it looks as if now we are stuck waiting until Dox returns (with his newer drivers with updated tweaks) at the end of summer...

I wish I could offer an awesome explanation of this, but frankly, I can't. School and work and more school and more work just caught up with me and I had less and less free time. Hell, the last MOVIE I went and saw was Iron Man.

As things calmed down a bit for a while I started looking into releasing a driver, I found that NVIDIA changed how INFs are laid out, and it was all totally alien to me. I didn't have the spare countless hours I once did to flip my tweaks on and off one at a time to see if they even all worked still.

I even approached Dox about taking up the MobileForce banner for me, but he was too enamoured (albeit slightly egotistical, perhaps rightly so) by his own brand to take up mine.

Frankly, I wouldn't know where to start again. Only a small number of people ever bothered to test for me, and their testing platform was very similar to mine, so I would have no base to test the drivers on DX10 cards at this point, which leaves me at a disadvantage. If no one bothers to test on newer hardware (and I'm not talking 1 singular person, it would have to be several) and report their findings, how can I keep up? I've been through countless testers with empty promises of providing feedback, but when the time comes to "sink or swim", they all vanish.

Bottom line is, unless things can change around HERE (NBF) I just can't keep up anymore. I don't have the TIME to do everything myself anymore, nor do I have the capacity to. Every outcry I made for testers either went with a select few people delivering empty promises of testing, or found its way onto deaf ears altogether.

I've never recieved a single dime for my work, nor have I outright asked for anything. Sure, at the time I was at TweaksRUs, there was a donation system in place, but I never received any, it was all for the server. At the short-lived TweaksMobile I had set up prior to coming here, I set up a donations system, but received nothing, paid for the server and domain myself and did all the setup myself. That's still all fine with me, but when the time came that I needed people to help me out in delivering the product that THEY wanted, only a small, VERY small, group of people came to my aid, and those were ones who were fans since the TweaksRUs days.

Don't misconstrue this as a ploy to get money or anything. On the contrary, all it is, is a statement as to WHY I've all but given up. What incentive do I have to keep putting in so much time and effort when I don't even receive the support I've asked and pleaded for?

I wish I knew about this Tony. I get tons of notebooks with different hardware in them for review. Why didn't you ask me to test your drivers for you? That's something I could easily do. Get back to me if you're interested.

Hey now, I've always offered to be a beta tester, and you USED to give me access to the drivers, and I USED to test them and send you lots of feedback (except for the times when school and work got in MY way, too). Hell, I was the one who suggested the "feedback form" and actually used it... It's a beetch doing both full-time, especially if you have a needy girlfriend... But School/family/friends come first, and that is understandable.

I sure hope you were including me in that rant, since I've been around and testing since the TweaksRus days and your TweaksMobile site. I got very leery of donating, since I did to TweaksRus twice back in the day (and $150 is a lot of money to a student), only to randomly lose the "Donator" status, the site to completely vanish in the power struggle not long after my second donation, and the ensuing MobileForce site that all but shunned me and "mysteriously" kicked me from the beta program (in part because I was talking about and helping YOU, which was very childish of them). Thus, I said screw them if they were going to be like that, and just migrated around with wherever you went. But the huge lack of drivers (or beta drivers even), made me migrate yet again, this time over to Dox. And yes, sometimes he has a bit of an arrogance to him, LOL! But whatever, he kicked out the drivers and was/is highly active in the forums at LV2G. I still think your drivers had the best IQ overall, though.

You've had KrayziePop, also. What happened to him? Isn't he still around? I though he was learning the ropes? I thought you were done with school by now -- are you going for a Masters or something?!? LOL! J/K. Senior year is a pain in the @$$, so I only expect it to get worse... I'm getting frustrated, though. You think being the creator of the mods is thankless and a pain in the ass? NO ONE knows who beta testers are, and it takes FOREVER to uninstall/install drivers correctly, let alone re-test a ton of games, benchmarks, play with the control panels, and watch videos every time. You get thanked all the time (and rightfully so), but did/do us beta testers? Nope. We're unsung, and it was fine with me. Doing anything for free/as a service to others on the Internet is pretty much a thankless endeavor, and anyone who is in it for the "glory" isn't in it for the right reasons.

I guess what I'd have liked is, if you had problems and such, that you'd keep us all updated instead of hanging. It's not cool to go so long without telling us what is going on...

But yeah, thanks for finally doing just that when prompted. I guess what I already knew and feared is the truth. If you ever come back to modding drivers, you know where to find me.

Believe me, I know of and have valued your efforts and support Shnike. You were one of the longtime users I was mentioning, so please don't think I was aiming at you.

I guess with lack of time, I just kinda shunned it off, then when free time hit, and I looked back to starting again, I just didn't see much of a point. Krayziepop got caught up in his own life as well, and I don't blame him one bit for that. In fact, I gave him my full support in leaving to take care of personal issues.

Don't take this as an "I'm done with doing this crap, peace" type of a thing. On the contrary. I'd like to start doing this again, it was enjoyable to see people pleased with my work, but as I stated previously, with time becoming shorter and shorter, and the solid testers fewer and farther between, I didn't have time to do it all. Now, I'm battling the technological timeline as well, and I can't feasibly test for DX10+ cards as I don't have one.

I appreciate the support from both of you (especially Steve and the rest of the NBF staff for giving me a home, and I'd like to continue having a home here). If there's more than the two of you willing to step up to give me a hand, please talk to me. With ~5-7 solid, reliable testers with varying types of machines (and there's plenty of variance in components around here) I could resume work full time. The question is, will I get that support that I need in order to continue?

I apologize if I came of as a bit of a douche in that last post, LOL! I do appreciate the things that you have accomplished over the years, for sure. I haven't been on AIM in a long time, so I hadn't chatted with ya in awhile. Didn't know about anything with you or Krayzie. Last thing I even remember, is you wanted my M1710 motherboard and Dell was being a pain in the @$$ by refusing to do right and replace it for you. From your response, sounds like not much has changed in that regard all this time later! Dude, you should do like I finally did (after 4-1/2 years of hell) and ditch Dell altogether. My Gateway has been mostly problem-free (except the BIOS update problems I had, and air behind the screen -- which I should have taken care of right away, but didn't). I was lucky if I went 3 months with my XPS Gen 2 or M1710 without anything breaking!

Anyways, maybe we can get NBF to put something on the front page "advertising" the need for solid/reliable testers? I don't think many users even come to this subforum much anymore. It needs to be visible. I'll even help out with the "interviewing" of potentials, if need be. We should get this pony out of the stables and back onto the track! All she needs is a slap on the arse...

Lemme know what you need.

I can put an announcement on the front page to get more people. Let me know what you need Tony. I'm all ears. You have my contact info.

OK, to give an update, I've got a very early MobileForce version of 186.18 working on my laptop (Windows XP ONLY), but I've run into some issues:

In the past year there have been several device ID's added, and I've not had the time to keep up with them all. What I currently have for ID's is available for view in the MobileForce 174.31 thread(s). If that's not good enough, I can provide the full list of everything I've got.

What I would LIKE is if someone, Shnike, Duke, whoever, can compare the list that I currently have with what's available for mobile GPUs on LaptopVideo2Go's 186.18 modified INF, as a doublecheck measure. I think I was only missing a couple of ID's, but I'd like someone else to doublecheck to be sure.

Once I get that out of the way, I'll release a public beta for everyone. This time, I really do promise.

Are you sure you want to use 186.18? I hear they are pretty unstable and like to throw Windows errors.

The ones that seem to be good performers and stable overall are 186.24. Maybe abandon 186.18 and go to 186.24's? If not, I can do the comparing of ID's.

(PS -- Good to see ya dipping your hand back into the pool to tes the waters once again! )

I've had no problems with them thusfar, and that's why I'm gonna release them as a public beta for peeps to test. If it turns out to be an issue, I don't imagine a migration from 186.18 to 186.24 will be a very big issue.

Any update on this new NBF Driver?
Finishing work on 190.38, it's taken a bit to work out the kinks and get familiar with things and get back into the swing of it all.

I'll be uploading a public beta INF for those drivers (with all instructions on how to proceed and whatnot, of course) either tomorrow or Monday.

Gonna be tomorrow for sure guys, ran into a snag with the driver, and just don't have time to fix that AND finish homework before I hit the sack tonight. Sometime tomorrow afternoon (2-3PM PDT) it'll be up.

What kind of cards do you need testing on? And you could explain a bit more on what you need about your post above?

Anything and everything, mainly newer GPUs (GeForce 9M and above). The uber performance GPUs are great to test on, but that's a small market, I'd really like some of the more mainstream chips to be tested on as that's one thing that's been lacking.

As far as advertising for beta testers, really, however you think it would be best done, if something on the front page would be good, then I'd be in full support of it. Whatever you need from me (a writeup or whatever) just lemme know and I'll get it to you.
If you do a short write up, I'll put it on the front page immediately.
