Acer Extensa 5630 RAM Problem

HI All,

Recently I bought new Acer Extensa 5630 with 4GB & 320 GB Hard disk.I installed Windows XP os ,on mycomputer properties
it is showing 3GB of RAM Size,I contacted the dealer who sold the laptop and he is telling 4gb is not supported for Windows XP.SO I changed the OS to VIsta home Basic stil it is showing 3GB instead of 4GB.

If anybody have solution plz let me know.

You can install 4GB.

Vista 32 bits with SP2 will report 4GB but will not use all of them.

If you want to take advantage of the 4GB systems, move to 64 bits OS environment.

I have installed vista home basic with sp2 and now it is showing 4GB of ram on mycomputer --> properties.
But in taskmanager it is showing total physical memory as 2999 MB means 3 GB.
the applications which i need to work consumes more memory thats why I went to 4GB Ram & 320 GB HardDisk configuration.
In Bios it is showing as 4029 MB.plz let me know how I can get the full(4GB) of Ram size for utilization.

As mentioned, other than working with a 64 Bits OS, your 4gigo ram will never be taxing out.

If I install 64 bit vista with sp2,can I get full RAM Size?
IS Windows 7 will be supported on Acer Extensa 5630 and can I get Full RAM Size on WIndows 7

Your model is 64 Bits ready, so yes - going to 64 Bits will let you taking advantage of all the installed ram.

For this model to Support W7 or not, it is at the moment an open "official" question to Acer itself. Most likely it will be yes, since most Vista drivers will work under W7.

But I cannot answer about certain specialty apps that come with the machine. Remember, we still have 3 months to go before the official W7, all current W7 users are just "testers"

Yesterday I installed Windows 7 64 bit version on acer extensa 5630.Now it is showing the full RAM Size and I am very happy with your suggestions.But still small issue is there,Acer Webcam is not working.

In Device Manager it is showing "the device is working properly" but in start--> Accessories ,Acer web cam application is not there. So I installed webcam software from Acer Resource DVD,now application is available in start -->Accesories,but application is not working.

Please let me know if there is any to solve this...

You can try using the 32 bits driver for the cam, installing in 32 bits mode.
