Possible to swap LCD from 15" to 15.4" glossy in 3690?

My toddler has cracked my 15" LCD panel in my Aspire 3690. I have seen many parts available on ebay for my model number.

I was wondering if anybody knows if I replace the entire top lid would the 15.4" glossy work with my hardware?

a 15.4" will not go onto a laptop made for 15" -

I'm sorry to hear about your screen - you wouldn't believe how often people tell me the damage is from their baby or kid so your not alone. As far as the bigger screen, only the 15" will work as the 15.4" wouldn't fit into or attach to the laptop in anyway.

Laptop parts are very PN specific and making the screen bigger would be going into modding a custom laptop from scratch which i don't think your looking to do.

Get the part number off your current lcd and just find the exact number and your good to go.

for an experience tech, could be a possibility.

look for an aspire 5100 for sale on ebay, typically plenty on there that are for sale "as is" or "broken" for mainboard problems. Should be able to swap the entire lcd assembly to yours. The 5100 comes with a 15.4 glossy widescreen.

The bezel on my 15" is wider than the bezel on a 15.4. Otherwise the dimensions of both top lids are the same. I would be swapping the lid as a whole, not just the LCD. Apparently Acer made some versions of the 3690 with a 15" standard dimension matte finish screen, and one with a 15.4 wide glossy. The thing I'm worrying about is the hardware compatibility. Not sure if the onboard video would recognize a different resolution monitor.

Either way I have learned a valuable lesson: Don't leave the laptop lid open when your two kids are having a lego fight.

I am only offering information. I am not trying to tell you to do this or do that, just wanted to save you issues down the line because laptops are very picky. They make it in a 15.4" I am sure, but the display assembly and bezel is bigger and the housing is a little different then the 15.0" otherwise it just wouldn't look or fit right. Good luck to whichever choice you make though, I do hope everything goes smooth. Take care.
