Picking a Dell Laptop

Thread Starter
I am trying to build a Dell Laptop and have it down to the following three configurations:

Studio 15-$1074

Processor-2.4 GHz/1066MHz/3MB
Memory-4 GB @ 800MHz
HD-320 @ 5400
Video Card-256 MB ATI 4570

Inspiron 15-$834

Processor-2.4 GHz/1066MHz/3MB
Memory-4 GB @ 800MHz
HD-320 @ 5400
Video Card-256 MB ATI 4330

Studio XPS 16-$1124

Processor-2.4 GHz/1066MHz/3MB
Memory-4 GB @ 1067MHz
HD-250 @ 7200
Video Card-512 MB ATI 3670

Basically the same machine but with different models, and thus different prices. The studio 15 has a 9 cell battery while the rest have 6 but I'm not sure how I feel about that (weight vs life)

Edit: Laptop will be used mostly for internet, school and eventually handed off to the wife/kids. my reason for these models is basically I wanted a screen size between 15 and 17, a dedicated video card in the even i want to play some light games/ watch movies/ and current dell deals.

Hi rodya,welcome to the forum.

From your list, the Studio XPS 16 will have the best graphical performance and has a lot less plastic in it's construction, with a fair bit of alloy,so would generally be considered a higher quality product than the other two.
Having said that, from what I've heard, the battery life isn't that great on it so if that's important,a 9 cell will add more expense and weight to the heaviest and most expensive of the three to start with.
All three will perform pretty much identically except for in game's,so the rest come's down to which size, shape, weight, styling, build quality you prefer.

Another dell option is their budget business Vostro range in 15 or 17" with 16:10 aspect screen's and the choice of configuring xp with included upgrade media for vista.

gerry spelled it out very well. Only thing I would say is only the Inspiron if budget is the issue based on your want of some gaming.

Yes the XPS does offer a better GPU but depending on games you play and if "light gaming" both might be fine/playable.

Studio wins on size and likely that 9 cell batt for batt life.

I just can't say an absolute better for you between those two. Sorry.
