What would you like to see in the next 88XX model? - Page 2

-ATI M10
-7200 rpm hard drive
-800FSB, dual channel 400DDR RAM
-17" UXGA LCD
-External battery option
-802.11g wireless MiniPCI
-longer battery life

I dont care how big it gets as long as I can find a way to move it, a 17inch screen would be NICE

M10/7200rpm is a MUST HAVE

reason I dont care for wide screen, its **** for gaming imo

At the risk of being off-topic-
O.K., an LS-240 (second generation LS-120) would be better.

If there is going to be a 3.5" floppy in the computer, I would rather it be a 240 MB floppy drive that is fully backward compatible with 120 MB, 1.44 MB and 720 kB floppies rather than a teensy weensy, wimpy 1.44 MB drive or incompatible Zip drive. 1.44 MB was good for DOS - it's not good now. And, 240 MB still stores a lot of files. Maybe I can't play Morrowind off of it, but that was never my goal anyway.

LS-240's cost about the same as a 1.44 MB floppy, don't take any extra circuitry, and give me a LOT more storage capacity. Actually, since they are IDE based, they should actually reduce circuitry, since the FDD controller can be eliminated.

It's really quite useful! I back up a lot of files to it, files that I don't want to burn to a CD, because they change so often (e.g.: Quicken data).

So, why not change out the 1.44 MB floppy drive for an LS-240? It gives a lot of benefits without adding in any major costs, and has the added benefit of reducing circuitry.

My $0.02!

Yes all of that stuff is cool. But a fingerprint scanner?! HAHAHA. I would buy two.

You prolly can't say Adam (and plead the 5th if you must) - but with ALL the things you listed - what are we looking at? Time fram and all. I know, I know...but I can't help myself.

Most important to me is the ability to upgrade the one I already have to the new configuration when it comes out.

I don't like wide screen, but having it available as an option would probably help sales.

I hate the touch pad location. If I disable it the PS2 port doesn't work either and with it enabled it causes a lot of typing problems when I accidently touch it. A cover for it might work. I strongly prefer a mouse or track ball anyway.

I agree with having optional items available for the MP3 slot. Since it uses USB, almost anything could be designed to take advantage of that spot. Like perhaps, a 6 in 1 card reader. Since I'm on that subject, does anyone know if the USB port the MP3 player plugs into is 1.1 or 2.0?

Finally, Thank You for giving us input on what is coming next.

And the final final thought is, I have bumped that $*&^ touch pad about 10 times while typing this short message. Something really does need to be done about it.

Since I am waiting for the new 888x to come out before buying because of all the new techs coming out this is perfect question...

What I'm waiting for the most is:

#1 - M10
#2 - 800Mzh FSB mobo 400DDR ram
#3 - Improved 16" monitor ! * I would be extremely happy to see this
#4 - 7200 rpm HDs

I could care less for a widescreen monitor...

everything else is just icing on the cake. But rest assured I'm buying from you guys.

yea prag, if its not possible for a 17inch non wide screen lcd then Im all for the wide/high angle 16

I think the order that I would want ...

-Keyboard fix! Put the enter as a long key and \ up to the top part.
-ATI m10
-mem, fsb upgrade
-7200 rpm, i dont really care about size, just get that 7200 out!

That's all that really matters to me.

I'd like to see:

7200 rpm HD
M10
17" UXGA LCD
800fsb
better sound

I you make a 17" screen on this beeyatch (sorry, just watched 8 mile), you'd better find me a bag that can carry it. Right now it *barely* fits in the Targus Deluxe Backpack and fits quite snuggly in that High Sierra bag from gearlabs.com.

Throw in a 17" screen--especially widescreen (sheesh)--and you'd better bust out the sewing machine Adam.

Other than that, M10 and bigger, faster harddrives would be the only things to make me wanna trade in my 8886. This thing already has enough cpu/fsb/ram power for two years worth of new games imho. Video and hard drive speed could be limiting in the near future.

But perhaps there are people out there who are buying these machines for something other than gaming...

Naaaahhhhh!

Easier battery swapping. I got a spare without realizing you need a screwdriver to swap...a pain on a transcontinental flight.

In addition to everything already listed (though I could do without the racecar makeover ), I'd like to see an optional second battery allowed, swappable with other drives. And I agree on the enter key needing that extra piece.

Dreamworld:
- Built in scanner/printer/copier/fax, minimum of 10 ppm color and black
- Ability to use the LCD as a tablet PC via WLAN 802.11g between the LCD and the rest of the computer, detachable of course.
- Video (DVD) DJ, like our current Audio (CD) DJ

Yeah especially since anything coming close to resembling a screwdriver is pretty much off limts on a flight now.. maybe you could get some lee presson nails though to do it

Finger Print Scanner

All the other things are important but how cool would it be to have a finger print scanner? Especially with the previously mentioned "Access Denied" thing. What do you think the cost for this would be?

Retina scanner??

Lol - thats taking things too far - and so is the fingerprint scanner. I think it will be waaaay cool to just have it there I am not sure how well it would work...

I'd rather not have it than be locked out of my own system...

Will read up on this...could be interesting...

the 888X could also do well to have fans on the side instead of underneath. Suck in air on one side and blow it out on the other side. Of course this is a Clevo issue

the temp monitoring software will be nice.

How about a battery level indicator on the front LCD - and make that front LCD a little more 'useful' with icons coming up and maybe FPS being displayed

Since the 88xx is one of the few notebooks that can have 2 permanent built in hard drives how about factory installed hardware (on the mobo) RAID 0; using 7200 rpm drives of course.

Also, the fingerprint thingy or some hardware encryption capability would be great.

Also they could lose the MP3 player and the built in floppy and redesign the case to save weight and space.

That's a good idea... hardware RAID inside a laptop. Nice.

I wonder when (or if) there will ever be SERIAL-ATA in 2.5" drives... serial-ata raid... that'd be HOT (literally!)

Umm couldn't you just order the logitech mouse seperately? I think this is mostly meant as integral features to be added..
